Expert Support for Law Enforcement Agencies in Investigating Illegal Logging

During investigations into logging legality, law enforcement agencies engage experts to conduct specialized studies requiring specific expertise.

A key focus of ForestCom experts is providing expert support to law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies through botanical, timber, and forestry assessments. This work helps combat illegal timber trade in both the domestic market and export operations.

Over the past four years, ForestCom experts have conducted more than 70 expert examinations within criminal and administrative investigations related to illegal logging, customs violations, and other breaches of Ukrainian laws concerning illegal timber trade across five regions of Ukraine.

On August 16, 2024, as part of these efforts, an expert from NGO ForestCom conducted a joint field visit with law enforcement representatives to a potential forest offense site to verify the legality of sanitary logging.

Photos from the field visit are available in the gallery.

NGO ForestCom is committed to promoting sustainable forest management and continues to identify and report instances of non-compliance with forestry regulations and legislation.

If you need to verify the legality of logging or have witnessed illegal tree cutting, please contact us at: info@forestcom.org.ua.
