Stories of the people we help: the Okopnyi family from Lysychansk
People who have an unwavering fire in their hearts, even in the face of adversity, are truly remarkable. They possess the ability to share their warmth with those around them. Today, we want to share the story of Mr. and Mrs. Okopnyi from Lysychansk. The love and strength of their family command respect.
In February 2022, when the "Russian world" invaded their home, Mr. Ivan decided to defend his homeland and went to the local military enlistment office, hoping to be mobilized and participate in combat operations. However, due to his advanced age, he was denied the opportunity. Currently, his son-in-law serves in the National Guard, carrying on the family's legacy of serving their country.
In April of the same year, the family made the decision to relocate to Lviv, leaving behind their old peaceful life that spanned several decades and a newly constructed house where a special family atmosphere prevailed. Only a gazebo remained unfinished... Now, the entire building is dilapidated, unable to create new family memories.
Presently, this elderly couple, who have crossed the threshold of their eighth decade, live together with their bedridden elderly mother in the village of Dmytrovychi in Lviv Region. Within a year of living in their new location, they have become part of rural life, cultivating their own garden and sharing their home with six local cats. Mrs. Nina not only adjusted to the new life but also enriched the Ukrainian language with many words that have become an integral part of the local lexicon. Now, words like "hornya" (mug), "patelnya" (frying pan), and "zupa" (soup) can often be heard in their house.
Their story is a shining example of how optimism, inner strength, and resilience can overcome even the toughest challenges. We are proud to have met them and to have the opportunity to assist Ukrainians who never lose hope in the face of despair.
We express special gratitude to the 外交部 Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ROC(Taiwan) for the opportunity to provide humanitarian aid to those in need.
Let us work together for victory!
