A training session for Ukrainian rangers took place in the Carpathian National Nature Park

In collaboration with the The State Ecological Academy of Postgraduate Education and Management of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, NGO "Forest Initiatives and Community" conducted a training for the inspectors of the State Environmental Protection Service of the Carpathian National Nature Park from September 27 to 29.

Over three days, participants delved into the importance of biodiversity, explored international experiences of national park rangers, familiarized themselves with legislation and operational procedures, and developed effective communication skills.

Dmytro Karabchuk, an expert in forestry and hunting management, shared insights on the project "Combating illegal logging in Ukraine" implemented by the NGO "Forest Initiatives and Community" with the support of the Department of International Programs of the US Forest Service. He also shared experiences of organizing and training national park rangers in the United States and Europe.

Volodymyr Yarotskyy, an expert in eco-education, biodiversity conservation, and research at NGO "ForestCom" led a session dedicated to the value of biodiversity and the importance of protecting vulnerable species.

National Carpathian Park staff learned about national and international regulatory acts ensuring protective measures for the objects of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve during sessions facilitated by Maksym Vysochyn, a leading scientist at the Kramatorsk Biosphere Reserve. He also shared insights on the organization of protective measures and territory patrolling in various Ukrainian national parks.

The last day of the training focused on effective communication psychology to equip the Carpathian National Nature Park inspectors with skills for engaging with violators and visitors to the park in a conflict-free and safe manner. Tetyana Dovydovska, a psychologist and developer of psychological training programs, conducted interactive sessions and role-playing games.

Through their collaboration, NGO "ForestCom" and the The State Ecological Academy of Postgraduate Education and Management  are establishing work standards for the State Environmental Protection Service inspectors in national parks. The nature of Ukraine and enthusiasts of green outdoor tourism truly benefit from implementing the best national and international nature conservation practices.
