Carpathian Gems: Verkhovyna National Nature Park Evolves into an Attractive Tourist and Rehabilitation Hub
The Ukrainian Carpathians are true natural treasures that always attract travelers from all over the world. One of the most impressive corners of this mountain region is the Verkhovyna National Nature Park. This remote, but extremely picturesque area is continuously developing thanks to the joint efforts of NGOs, local authorities, and conservationists.
Global Conservation and ForestCom are two leading environmental organizations that have been collaborating for three years on the project "Development of Verkhovyna National Nature Park as an Attractive Tourist and Rehabilitation Hub." Their work aims to address the urgent problems of the park, including lack of funding, underdeveloped infrastructure, and insufficient educational activities. Particular attention is paid to the possibility for people affected by military actions or other traumas to recover using the inclusive infrastructure planned to be developed in the tourist and rehabilitation hub "Perkalaba Gate."
Thanks to the dedicated work of the project team, significant progress has been achieved:
-
Fruitful cooperation has been established with the park administration, local authorities, and communities.
-
Project documentation has been developed for the construction of modern visitor centers in the villages of Verkhniy Yaseniv and Perkalaba.
-
Land has been acquired for the creation of the inclusively-oriented tourist and rehabilitation hub "Perkalaba Gate."
-
Equipment has been provided for effective patrolling of the park by rangers.
-
Unique 3D video stories about the natural attractions of Verkhovyna Park have been created.
-
Maps of valuable nature conservation and unique tourist-recreational attractions in the Carpathians have been developed, and much more.
The current, fourth stage of the project focuses on further developing the park's infrastructure, promoting its natural riches, and supporting conservation efforts. Specifically, the following is planned:
-
Creation of the tourist and rehabilitation hub "Perkalaba Gate" with a modern visitor center and a camping area oriented towards the needs of people affected by military actions.
-
Assistance in developing inclusive park infrastructure to ensure accessibility of nature for all.
-
Support for conservation initiatives of the park administration.
-
Promotion of the development of the Verkhovyna Tourist Hub within the UNESCO World Heritage Carpathian National Nature Park.
Thanks to such active efforts, the Verkhovyna National Nature Park is gradually transforming into a leading conservation and tourist center of the Ukrainian Carpathians, allowing for better preservation of its unique landscapes and biodiversity.
Join us in preserving this Carpathian gem!
